New to hypnosis?
Start Here: A Responsible Introduction to Hypnosis
Use this short learning path to understand what hypnosis is, what it is not, how suggestions work and where responsible limits belong.
The simple definition
Hypnosis is a cooperative process involving focused attention, imagination and responsiveness to suggestions. It is not sleep, unconsciousness or control by another person. People remain capable of making decisions and rejecting suggestions that do not fit their intentions or values.
Experiences vary. Some people feel deeply relaxed; others feel alert and absorbed. No single sensation proves that hypnosis is “working.”
